[groovy-debug] Enable the extended step filters to be user-configurable

    Details

    • Type: Improvement Improvement
    • Status: Open Open
    • Priority: Minor Minor
    • Resolution: Unresolved
    • Affects Version/s: 2.5.1.RELEASE
    • Fix Version/s: None
    • Component/s: GRAILS
    • Labels:
      None

      Description

Currently, extended step filtering for Groovy applications is either all on or all off (using the check-box in the Extended Debug preferences page). However, it may be desirable for users to selectively choose which stack frames should be filtered.

Since the step filtering is so finicky, it would probably be best to have certain packages permanently checked, and others can be checked or unchecked. Also, users should be able to add their own packages.

Thanks for raising the issue, Andrew.

When it is just as much ready as would allow me to configure STS to step into grails internals and skip groovy internal implementation packages, kindly leave an update here and I will upgrade asap.

Another possibility to simplify things is instead of providing a fully-fledged step-filter dialog, provide an extra check box to toggle whether or not grails stack frames should be filtered as well.

This way, users could choose to step-through groovy frames, but step into grails frames.

        Currently, all are filtered.

I personally need to just choose at a macro level whether I want debugging on or off for groovy/grails. I don't need to configure at a more detailed level. So a toggling option will do for me.
